Community Beat for 2 August

2024-08-02 - By EVE Online Community Team

Howdy Spacefriends!

August is here, which marks us nearly 60% through the year, but much like conflict in New Eden, progress marches on!

In this edition of the Community Beat, we continue to review some of the kickass content you've all been making. We kick off with some of the :chefskiss: art that we've seen created the last couple of weeks - If you've joined any of the community team Live2Feed broadcasts, we occasionally drop into the ESSs when we roam around, so this one caught our eye for relatable reasons! Monzoobo was commissioned to produce some ESS banner art for Julio Von Matterhorn, which looked dope! Check out their Deviantart page; they also have some EVE-themed tarot cards! If you like their work, their commissions are open to new work, too!

In the realms of more tangible art, one of the artists we've previously featured, eetor, posted a beautiful 3d printed Machariel that they painted up. The camouflage colours look spot on, along with the black and white highlights on top! I'd 100% grab it by hand, making wooshing spaceship and artillery boom noises as I fly it around the office...

From a single ship to a small fleet - Irilieth_Raivotuuli over on Reddit also posted one of their resin-printed designs, featuring a Rorqual, Hulks and even a little Noctis in there. They threw in a euro coin for scale, and you can see the Hulks are about the size of the coin, so you could have a whole fleet fit in the palm of your hand.

Another work of art, but this time in-game, was a recent "pipebomb" which we were sent footage of.

For those unfamiliar with the term, when traversing, gate to gate from one system to another in a long chain, it is referred to as "Going up or down a pipe". Occasionally, intelligence reports from one group will be able to predict the gate-to-gate travel of another group to such an extent that they plan to engage them whilst in transit. When pulled off effectively, in quick succession, the attacking group will wait for the transiting group to align to an exit gate and drop up a warp interdiction bubble on the gate, forcing the fleet to land on the edge of the bubble. Once the bubble is up, the attacking fleet will jump/cyno/bridge into where the travelling fleet is about to land. The attacking fleet, which is entirely fitted with Smartbombs and high resistance to their Smartbomb damage type of choice, all start firing off their Smartbombs simultaneously, damaging everything nearby. The travelling fleet then all land in the wall of damage and are often vapourised before they can escape. It's incredible when it's pulled off. Rooks and Kings were featured performing a successful pipebomb during the This is EVE trailer, and then they later released the footage from their POV.

This time, we had "OnlyFleets" pipebomb a fleet primarily comprised of individuals from the "HOLD MY PROBS" Alliance. Utilising the new Carrier conduit jump capabilities, then Microjumpdriving away to safety and cloaking, they dropped 30 Praxis on the travelling fleet, but it was executed PERFECTLY. When you see where the fleet lands, you know it will be carnage (BR here).

Similarly, with smartbombing another mass of ships, over in the system of 1P-WGB, a fleet of ~80 ships from Goonswarm Federation were sitting on the edge of an anchoring Fortizar, all clustered in a tight sphere. Ten pilots from Pandemic Horde, all in cloaked Legions and equipped with Smartbombs, warp into the cluster of ships, decloak, and BOOM, wiping out all the ships and a good chunk of pods (BR here).

On the topic of ship explosions - If you're a "1v1 at the sun" type of combat enjoyer, streamer and video maker, The Boojum is organising a 1v1 T1 Frigates-only PvP Tournament at 0200 UTC on 3 August (tomorrow).

If you want to watch it, you can tune into the Twitch channel, or if you're looking to participate, I'd recommend dropping into their Discord, where you'll likely find more details and location announcements closer to the start time!

After losing your ships, one of the recent relaunches of a third-party website might also interest you. Formally known as evemarketer.com, a spiritual successor http://evemarketbrowser.com/ has launched in its place! The interface on the website gives you the familiar feeling of the market data and price history you see in the game. Still, with the ability to change the region in the top right, you can now check out the market from anywhere.

Big shoutout to Raph Toulouse for their work on the project - not only that, but they've open-sourced it and placed it over on GitHub as well if you want to take a look yourself.

Lastly - In case you missed it, one of New Eden's most trusted 3rd party services, Veldspar enjoyer and all-around awesome person Chribba, has been approached to handle wealth liquidation and redistribution of a player, calling it a day from New Eden.

With an estimated value of 1 trillion ISK, Chribba will pick a selection of lucky winners on Reddit for each week of the Olympics. All you have to do to enter is comment in the thread, and you'll be entered! 85 Large Skill Injectors have been handed out in the first two rounds, with the 3rd round of prizes due to start today; keep an eye out at around 1900 UTC today on the EVE Subreddit for the post from Chribba!

That's it from this edition of the Community Beat; we look forward to seeing you in the next one when we'll be only a week away from the Alliance Tournament!!
